Itinerary Morocco Desert Expedition by Motorcycle – 9 Days
Day 1 – Arrival Day in Marrakech
Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. This first day is reserved for rest and acclimatization after your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you can begin exploring the lively streets of the Medina, visit historical landmarks such as Bahia Palace or Koutoubia Mosque, or relax in a traditional Moroccan hammam. In the evening, you will meet your guide and fellow riders for a welcome briefing, where the route, safety procedures, and bike preparation will be explained in detail.
Day 2 – Marrakech to Ouarzazate
After breakfast, your adventure begins with a spectacular ride across the High Atlas Mountains. You will ascend the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, riding through dramatic landscapes of red-earth villages, deep valleys, and winding mountain roads. Numerous panoramic stops allow you to enjoy the scenery and take photos. Continuing south, you will reach Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert” and Morocco’s film capital, where you will visit kasbahs and enjoy a relaxing evening.
Day 3 – Ouarzazate to Boumalne Dades
Today’s ride leads you through the beautiful Valley of Roses and the Skoura palm groves, following ancient caravan routes lined with classic mud-brick kasbahs. The landscape slowly changes as you approach the Dades Valley, famous for its towering rock formations and dramatic canyon roads. Arriving in Boumalne Dades, you will enjoy breathtaking views over the gorge and spend the night surrounded by rugged mountain scenery.
Day 4 – Boumalne Dades to Merzouga
This day takes you deeper into the desert world. You will ride past the impressive Todra Gorge and cross arid plateaus toward the town of Erfoud, known for its fossils and desert gateway atmosphere. The journey ends in Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise dramatically from the horizon. In the late afternoon, enjoy an optional camel ride or sunset walk on the dunes before settling into a desert lodge or camp.
Day 5 – Merzouga to Ouzina
Leaving Merzouga, the route becomes more remote and adventurous. You will ride along desert tracks and gravel roads, passing through wide open hamadas, fossil plains, and hidden oases. The destination is the peaceful village of Ouzina, located on the edge of the deep Sahara. Here, you will experience true desert silence and enjoy a traditional dinner under a sky filled with stars.
Day 6 – Ouzina to M’Hamid
Today you will ride into one of the most remote regions of Morocco. Crossing vast desert landscapes, dry riverbeds, and sandy trails, you will follow the old Paris–Dakar Rally tracks toward M’Hamid, the last village before the great Sahara dunes of Erg Chegaga. This is a pure adventure day, offering an authentic off-the-beaten-path desert riding experience.
Day 7 – M’Hamid to Foum Zguid
The adventure continues through wild desert tracks as you cross the Iriqui National Park, with its dried lake beds and lunar landscapes. This route offers wide open riding and spectacular isolation. You will reach Foum Zguid, a vibrant desert outpost town where the Atlantic-influenced winds meet the Sahara terrain, offering a change in scenery and atmosphere.
Day 8 – Foum Zguid to Ouarzazate
You leave the desert behind and return toward civilization, riding through the rocky landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. Passing through Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpet cooperatives, you will enjoy views of colorful plateaus, acacia trees, and remote hillside villages. Arrive back in Ouarzazate for a comfortable evening.
Day 9 – Ouarzazate to Marrakech
